Restoration of hard tissues of teeth after caries damage remains an actual topic for today. Continuous improvement of dental materials and techniques makes it possible to restore the function and aesthetic appearance of the teeth while minimizing the harm to the natural structures of the tooth. What is sedation in dental treatment? You will find the answer in our blog articles.
In modern dentistry, two main methods of restoring the crown part of the tooth are used: seals and inserts.
The seal is the restoration of the anatomical shape of the tooth with the help of high-strength aesthetic photopolymer materials. It is a fast, reliable and effective method of caries treatment. The tab on functionality is similar to the seal, but it is not made in the patient’s mouth, but in the laboratory made of ceramics, precious metal alloys and special composite materials, due to which it has a number of advantages over seals.
Advantages of tabs:

-
- Aesthetics. Ceramic inserts are always more aesthetic, as ceramics have optical properties that are as close as possible to tooth tissues (fluorescence, opalescence, diffuse reflection of light, refraction angle of light, etc.) Therefore, a tooth with a ceramic insert will always look «alive».
- Strength. Ceramic inserts are more resistant to chips with vertical and horizontal chewing movements, evenly transfer the load to the tooth, thus preventing its splitting.
- Color stability. Tabs with time do not change in color, because they do not have porosity, which absorbs the pigment; They are not fixed on the plaque, they do not need to be polished.
- Precise display of the shape of the tooth cavity. Tabs have an ideal fit to the tooth, as they are uniform in structure, and do not change in size under the action of light (do not give polymerization shrinkage).
However, despite all the above advantages of inlays, there are clinical cases when it is more appropriate to restore a tooth with a filling:
- in the presence of tooth wear, if individual teeth are being restored;
- if the cavity is located in the cervical area, in the front teeth;
- small size of the carious cavity (a deeper treatment is required for an inlay).
Advantages of fillings:
- restoration of a tooth or group of teeth in one visit;
- possibility of placement for any class of cavities;
- ease of use thanks to the high-tech and aesthetic properties of modern photopolymer materials;
- durability and strength when recommendations are followed;
- significantly more affordable cost.
To choose a seal or a tab, you need to weigh all the doctor’s recommendations and possible treatment options. We strive to return not only functionality, but also an aesthetic, healthy kind of teeth. True beauty lies in naturalness — Prizma Dental Clinic in Podil.
