Orthodotology — is the branch that never stops its improvement. A lot of methods and devices are used to correct teeth location or occlusion.
What Is Microimplants
Orthodontological microimplants are micro-screws performed of pure titanium or its alloy. Due to its composition they are compatible with human organism tissue from the point of view of biology. Their main difference from orthopedic is that the microscrews have much smaller diameter, up to 2mm, and smooth surface.
Why do you need micro-implants
Teeth are support points which facilitate displacement. However, sometimes these points are not enough for treatment of particular deformations. Therefore, additional devices – micro-implants – are used for this purpose, they produce one more support point for tooth displacement.
How does it work
Micro-implants system is installed into the bone tissue of the lower or upper jaw serving as additional support points. After the micro-screw installation its head protrudes above the surface of gingiva to which various orthodontic devices (elastics, chains, springs) are attached; this system provides displacement.
Depending on the clinical case, micro-implants are used in orthodontology either individually or in addition to the brace. After the treatment course completion micro-implants are removed.
The sue of micro-implants has a number of advantages: it widens the possibilities of orthodontological teeth displacement in case of overcrowding of teeth, fanwise teeth divergence, in case of occlusion pathology, teeth intrusion or extrusion; it shortens the treatment duration, makes it possible to obtain predictable high-aesthetic treatment results.
