Braces are non-removable orthodontic devices used for occlusion correction. Wearing braces makes it possible to eliminate the anomalies and defects and consequently obtain straight teeth at quite a short period.

The Task of the Braces

Braces are designed for occlusion correction and teeth position modification. Each tooth has its socket in which it is fixed by means of connective tissue fibers. The tooth changes its position if affected by permanend pressure in one direction. Therefore, there gradually occurs new connective tissue fixing such incorrect tooth position in its socket.

Braces provide even pressure on teeth in correct direction. This is the way occlusion correction and dental arch strengthening takes place.

Contraindications

Absolute contradictions to braces installation:

• Immune system diseases;
• Blood diseases;
• Cardio-vascular system disease;
• Tuberculosis;
• Epilepsy, paranoia, schizophrenia;
• diabetes mellitus;
• Congenital osteopathy, osteoporosis;
• HIV.

Types of brace

By location:

Vestibular (external). They are fixed at the external side of tooth. Of course, they are visible, and it should be got used to. One of the options of less visible vestibular braces is the sapphire braces.

Lingual (internal). They are fixed at the internal side of tooth. Their main advantage is that they are invisible; their disadvantage is the temporary articulation defects.

By fixation method:

Ligature. They are fixed by means of a lock on the orthodental arch which has a form of elastic ring.

Self-ligating (non-ligature). They have a slot for an arch which is put on a lock installed in the brace.

By material:

• Metal  (there are braces with gold sputtering);
• ceramic;
• sapphire;
• plastic.

The price of the braces mainly depends on the material. The most expensive are sapphire systems but they have a number of advantages you can find in the relative section of our site.

Brace Installation

1. Preparatory stage. This stage includes professional cleaning (removal of tartar and soft calcular deposit, teeth sanation (replacement of filling, caries treatment) and diagnostics  Dolphin.
2. Brace installation. Orthodontologist will prepare enamel, fix the braces, install the arches and give recommendations of brace care. The procedure lasts about an hour (for one jaw). Is you need brace installation on the both jaws, the procedure will be divided into two visits.
