Treatment of periodontitis

Treatment of periodontitis

Periodontitis is an inflammatory process of the shell of the tooth root, as well as the surrounding tissues. The disease occurs as a result of caries, as well as infection of the top of the tooth from the pulp.

The clinic of aesthetic dentistry “Prizma” successfully treats periodontitis – we will save you from debilitating pain!

Classification of the disease by localization

According to localization, periodontitis is divided:

Apical (apical). The tissue becomes inflamed near the apex of the root.

Regional. It is expressed by the presence of inflammation at the edge of the gums.

Apical periodontitis is more common, which is a consequence of complicated caries. In this case, microbes enter the tissues surrounding the tooth (periodontium). The inflammatory process can develop into an acute or chronic stage, or an exacerbation stage.

Acute periodontitis – symptoms

The main characteristic of periodontitis is localized throbbing pain that gradually increases; sometimes the body temperature rises. When closing the jaw and chewing, the pain becomes unbearable.

Acute periodontitis requires immediate treatment, as pus infects the body!

Signs of chronic periodontitis

Slowly flowing chronic periodontitis is manifested by symptoms of a feeling of fullness, mild pain, heaviness in the area of the affected tooth.

Sometimes the disease does not manifest itself at all and it is diagnosed by chance on an x-ray during the treatment of other teeth.

When the disease passes into the stage of exacerbation of the chronic process, a general deterioration in well-being is observed – fatigue, weakness appear, sleep is disturbed. When chewing, there is such severe pain that the person refuses to eat.

The gums swell and turn red, if you do not resort to the treatment of periodontitis of the teeth, a fistula will form on the gum, from where pus will be released.

How do we treat periodontitis

The first thing to do in the acute course of the disease is to pump out exudate or pus. To do this, a thorough mechanical and antiseptic treatment of the root canals of the tooth is carried out with the installation of a temporary filling and medication in the canal.

The number of visits depends on the thoroughness of the treatment and the release of fluid from the canal – as soon as it is possible to completely clean and dry the root canal, the canals and the tooth are permanently sealed with further observation.

In chronic periodontitis, the main task is to save the tooth, so the main thing is a conservative method of treatment. And in the case of the presence of granulomas, with the ineffectiveness of a conservative method of treatment, they can resort to tooth-preserving operations: resection of the root apex and hemisection.

Treatment of periodontitis in children

The causes of periodontitis in children are the same as in adults. Most often, the disease develops on chewing milk teeth and on the first permanent tooth, less often observed on the incisors.

For the treatment of periodontitis of the tooth, both surgical and conservative methods are used. Conservative treatment provides for antibacterial and antiseptic effects on the affected flora of the root canal with their further filling.

Surgery is indicated for:

  • the probable change of a milk diseased tooth by a permanent one during the year;
  • failure of conservative treatment;
  • the spread of periodontitis from the root of a milk tooth to a permanent one;
  • resorption of the tooth root by 2/3 of its length.

The cost of periodontitis treatment depends on the method used – the need for one method or another is determined by the doctor at the consultation.

Prevention of periodontitis

As a preventive measure of the disease, the main recommendation is to observe hygiene, do professional cleaning twice a year, and at the first manifestations of caries, immediately consult a dentist.
