TREATMENT OF A TOOTH CYST

TREATMENT OF A TOOTH CYST

A tooth cyst is a cavity formation filled with liquid, which is benign in nature and is located in the jaw bones. The treatment of a tooth cyst is to remove it.

There are such types of cysts:

  • Radicular (formed at the top of the tooth root)
  • Follicular (develops around the crown of a tooth that has not yet erupted)
  • Paradental (eruption cyst)
  • Epidermoid (primary).

Causes of a cyst

The main reasons why a cyst occurs:

  • periodontitis
  • tooth injury
  • violation of the development of the tooth germ
  • due to poor-quality treatment of root canals of the tooth
  • teething, the germ of which is in the cyst
  • difficult eruption of the lower wisdom tooth or any other tooth (in this case, the removal of a tooth with a cyst is required).

Depending on the type and location, the dentist will determine which method to remove the cyst.

The most common radicular cyst (tooth cyst).

Symptoms of a tooth cyst

Often the disease develops without any symptoms and is detected by X-ray. However, if suppuration of the cyst occurs, then:

Puffiness. The gum near the diseased tooth becomes inflamed red and swollen.

It’s a dull pain. Pain when exposed to the gum or when biting on an aching tooth.

Elevated temperature. Since the neoplasm is filled with pus, such inflammation causes an increase in body temperature, weakness.

Flux, fistula, suppuration. They appear when the disease is running.

Note that against the background of a decrease in immunity and colds, the infection worsens and active formation of pus occurs. Therefore, if you get sick and find, in addition to everything else, a toothache, you should immediately contact your dentist. The specialist will diagnose and determine how to cure a tooth cyst in your case.

Tooth cyst removal – treatment methods

In the center of aesthetic dentistry “Prizma” in Kyiv, the treatment of a dental cyst is aimed at preserving the tooth.

Therapeutic treatment of dental cysts. It consists in high-quality proper treatment of the root canals of the tooth and monitoring it through x-rays. You can talk about recovery if the cyst has resolved.

There are also more radical classical methods for removing a tooth root cyst:

Cystectomy. A radical surgical method, which involves the complete removal of the cyst membrane, followed by suturing the surgical wound tightly. Access to the neoplasm is opened through the detachment of the gum flap.

Cystotomy. An operative method in which the anterior outer wall of the cyst is removed along with the adjacent bone, and the resulting cavity communicates with the vestibule of the mouth.

The treatment of tooth cysts also includes tooth-preserving operations:

Hemisection. A type of operation in which it is not possible to save one of the roots of the tooth, so the root is removed along with the cyst. The defect site is covered with a crown.

Root apex resection. It consists in removing the cyst along with the tip of the tooth root, which is turned inside the cyst.

The cost of treating a tooth cyst will depend on the complexity of the operation.

Removal of a cyst in a tooth by a surgical method involves the use of anesthesia, so the patient will not feel pain during the manipulation. The operation takes 40-60 minutes.

After removing the cyst on the root of the tooth, it is important to monitor the health of the teeth in order to prevent the recurrence of the disease.
