Prosthetics on implants

The procedure of implant prosthodontics makes it possible to exclude healthy teeth preparation. To install a crown it does not need any fixation on the adjacent, often healthy teeth. It means that they are not mechanically treated thus preserving a good condition for a long time. An implant completely replaces a real tooth being its full equivalent. Besides, its installation positively affects the adjacent teeth: the implant acts as a support filling the gap formed after the loss of the replaced tooth.

Types of Implant Prosthodontics

The most wide-spread and popular procedure is installation of one or several implants using artificial crowns.

In case of complete absence or loss of most teeth you may use overdenture or make full fixed restoration.

In case of overdenture a prosthesis in installed on 2-4 implants and reliably fixed by means of special fixtures.

In case of full fixed restoration 6 or more implants are used and crowns are installed on them  on bridge prostheses. It makes it possible to completely restore natural appearance and functions of the teeth refusing the conventional prosthesis.

The both above-described prosthesis methods solve the articulation problem in case of full loss of teeth and decrease the probability of gag response which often occurs during the ordinary prostheses wearing.

The course of treatment

Implant prosthodontics consists of several steps:

1. Selection of installation points. Correctly selected installation location provides fixation reliability and reduces the implant number.
2. Temporary prostheses are installed for the time period necessary for the installed implant survival.
3. Prosthetics is performed. Test metal structure is manufactured and finished.
4. Manufacture of permanent prosthesis.
