Reflexologist in Kyiv – specialist in acupuncture body points

A reflexologist is a doctor whose treatment is based on stimulating the human body’s biologically active points and nerve endings.  It is a specialist who has a symbiosis of knowledge in neurology, osteopathy and rehabilitation, and is able to use his skills for a wide spectrum of diseases, symptoms and for preventive purposes.

A particular feature of the methods the specialist carries out is the combination of special needles, scrapers and physiotherapy procedures (Gua sha massage, moxibustion) and the absence of treatment with any kind of medication.

What are the acupuncture points?

Acupuncture is one of the primary methods of treatment in traditional Chinese medicine and it is based on a system of meridians. Along the meridians lie special acupuncture points, which are stimulated by needling, pressure or heat to resolve a clinical problem. These special points are located on the 14 meridians through which “vital energy” circulates.

Each point is associated with a particular organ of the body and when there is a dysfunction in any of the organs, the condition of the point responsible for that organ is changed. If you work on these points at the initial stage of the disease, it can restore and normalize the organ’s condition.

The points can be harmonizing, stimulating or relaxing (balancing the functions of the nervous system). Depending on the disease and symptoms, the specialist determines the points to be stimulated, the time and penetration depth of the needles.

Symptoms for which you should consult a reflexologist

The main task is the elimination of unresolved chronic pain, as well as the treatment of chronic diseases that do not respond to standard treatment methods.

Make an appointment with a reflexologist at the PRIZMA Medical Center if you notice such symptoms as:

  • Pain syndromes of any kind of aetiology
  • Frequent headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Poor sleep and insomnia
  • Chronic backache
  • Constipation, meteorism, colic
  • Premenstrual syndrome in women
  • Menstrual disorders
  • Increased anxiety, emotional instability
  • Sexual disorders

It is worth mentioning that you should also see a reflexologist if you have an allergic reaction to drugs and cannot take medication.

How a reflexologist’s appointment is carried out at the PRIZMA Medical Centre

The reflexologist will prescribe a comprehensive and individual treatment, after examining your medical history and any complaints you may have. The specialist needs to know about your current condition, whether you have any chronic diseases and whether you are taking any medications. If any of your diseases are in an acute stage, you should also inform your doctor about this.  The treatment programme will be adapted to your physiological condition, lifestyle, age and the manifestations of your diseases and other symptoms.

During the first session, the specialist uses one or more techniques from his or her own arsenal, based on the information received from the patient, and controls the body’s response. The body’s response tells the practitioner which points respond effectively to the treatment and is used to achieve faster results.  The session can last from 20 minutes to 90 minutes and is determined individually, depending on the patient’s particular needs.

Methods of treatment with a reflexologist

The most effective treatment is achieved with a comprehensive approach. Therefore, several methods are combined, including the following as the main ones:

Reflexotherapy acupuncture (acupuncture, needling)

This method is based on penetrating the skin with thin needles to acupuncture points. The needle insertion is painless and feels like a mosquito bite. Depending on the acupuncture points, the disease and the insertion technique, the acupuncture session lasts between 15 and 60 minutes. During the session, you should feel the needle, but you should not experience any discomfort, though sometimes you may feel a slight tautness, pressure or some itching in the area where the needle is inserted. The appearance of red spots around the needle is an indication that the body is beginning to work properly.

Gua sha massage

The main purpose of this massage is to remove toxins from the skin. The massage is carried out with scrapers made of natural stone (ebonite or nephrite). The therapist uses different strokes in the same direction, but with different degrees of stimulation. The movements can vary from slow and slight to intense pressure. The session lasts 15-25 minutes and the more red marks appear on the massage area, the more toxins are released from the body. The massage activates various points of the body, significantly improves blood and lymph circulation.

Massage with vacuum-magnetic cans

This type of therapy is similar to acupuncture, but takes place without any damage to the skin. There is a magnet inside the plastic can, which creates a magnetic field that penetrates to a depth of 6 cm and helps to improve blood circulation and activate metabolism at the cellular level.

Vacuum-magnetic cans are effective in the treatment of pain syndromes, headaches, gynecological disorders, bronchitis and diseases of the nerve system

Moxibustion with wormwood cigars (heat-puncture)

Moxibustion, which basically means to burn herb, is part of acupuncture therapy and it is used at a distance of 1-3 cm from the skin surface. The therapy takes place due to heat, which spreads from a smoldering cigar from dried medicinal plants and is directed to warm and stimulate certain acupuncture points. The temperature of the skin at the place of application of the cigar can rise to 43-45 degrees without forming burns. This method is definitely worth to try if you have pain in the abdomen, joints, back and waist, and during painful menstruation.
