Damon braces system is a modern American technology of self-ligating braces.

How do Damon braces compare to traditional braces?

In traditional braces, elastic bands (ligatures) or metal ties are applied to the brackets to hold the archwire in place. The elastic bands are noticeable and often tight, which puts pressure on teeth. Damon braces use a self-ligating system to connect archwires to brackets, orthodontic archwires are fixed using special locks (with a built-in component to hold the wire and a sliding mechanism), which speeds up treatment time and reduces the number of orthodontist visits and periodic adjustments compare to traditional braces.

Will Damon braces work for you?

Damon braces work for many issues such as:

• uneven teeth, crowded teeth, rotation of teeth;
• malocclusion, underbite, overbite.

Benefits of self-ligating braces include:

• reduction of terms of treatment for 3-4 months (due to the archwire attachment features);
• shorter orthodontist visits on average once every 1.5 months (which is much less compared to traditional ligature braces) and less time for adjustments;
• quick adaptation to treatment due to a more gradual and natural movement of teeth;
• there is less chance of permanent teeth removal (due to a more effective expansion of the dentition and creating more space for the teeth);
• easier oral hygiene due to the absence of elastic bands (ligatures).

How braces are put on?

There are two methods:

• direct (the doctor fixes the braces directly on the teeth in the oral cavity);
• indirect (the doctor first fixes the braces on the patient’s model, and then transfers them to the teeth with the help of dental mouthguards).
